Music to Match the Dance
Perhaps you haven’t thought of this before, but the music you dance to is very important. You won’t be able to salsa to a country song and you won’t be able to waltz to a salsa song. At our adult dance studio in Mississauga, we make sure that the music matches the dance at each of our dance classes. We play specific songs that are meant to be danced to in certain ways. This offers you the opportunity to get experience dancing to the proper type of music for each dance. At each lesson, you’ll learn each dance to our specific songs, and you’ll have the ability to dance to similar songs when you’re out on the town or at a special event.
The dance found its way into Argentina where it was recreated by the gauchos in Buenos Aires. This dance of love originated at the very beginning of the Cuban and Latin American dance crazes. The romantic music and movement was inspired by a fusion of African rhythms and Spanish melodies making the rumba the base for all Latin dances including the mambo and cha-cha. It is filled with hip action and, of course, spins and dips. The rumba replaces the eighth-grade sway of yesteryear in a whole new way!
The slow, sultry beat of the rumba makes it easy to learn a variety of body movements, spins and turns at a comfortable pace. When you're ready, you can interrelate those same patterns in the faster Latin dances with ease and confidence.

The tango was stylized by the gauchos of Argentina, where they danced it circling the bar tables after a hard day's work. It became the rage in 1921 after Rudolph Valentino brought its romance and allure to the silent screen in The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Its passion and excitement has most recently been captured in movies such as True Lies, Shall We Dance? and Scent of a Woman. The tango is known as one of the most powerful and dramatic dances, characterized by staccato movements, dips and gaucho flicks. It's commonly referred to as the "dancer's dance," where the men get to be men and the women love it! Creating amazing leading and following skills, it's truly a favourite for all that learn it.

In the days of the Old West when women were not allowed to dance with men, men danced together, and that is the reason for the hand on the shoulder holding a can of beer and the other hand to the side. The only women who eventually danced with these men were the Native American women, and that is where all the turns came about because the women loved to spin.
